Squealing and Not drying properly/shutting off
Model Number: LGA60AW Brand: Amana Age: 5 - 10 years
Two issues. 1) A few years ago a repairman replaced the cylinder rollers, but afterwards we had many noise and running issues. When I took the dryer apart I found he had put rollers in backwards. I turned the rollers around so that they faced the correct direction, but even then I didn't feel like they turned as smoothly as they should. After that there has been a steadily increasing squealing noise so I recently bought new rollers ( by this time the old ones would barely turn on the shaft) and replaced them. At that time I realized that on one shaft one of the two thrust washers was missing. I reassembled the dryer with only the one thrust washer to get it running. There is still a pretty steady squealing noise at first but it becomes intermittent as the dryer runs and after a while becomes pretty quiet. Do you think I need to replace one or both of the roller shafts due damage when the rollers were put on backwards? Do you think that the missing thrust washer might be the cause of the squealing noise? If you feel that replacing the shaft is called for, my question is should I just by the shaft assembly AP4048635 or just threaded shaft AP3685477? I would put a new thrust washer on at that time. 2) After I replaced the rollers as described above the dryer appeared to heat fine for the first load or so. Within a day or so though it appeared that the dryer was not drying properly (heating sometimes, not others) and the timer did not appear to be advancing properly. Is this a bad timer and/or the gas coils such a was mentioned in another similar issue? I did clean out the combustion duct as best could with hand vac and removed lint from the inside of the dryer case, but I didn't check too carefully to see if perhaps the heater duct was plugged. My wife checked the dryer vent outside and said while there was air movement, the air did not seem very warm. Thanks for your thoughts on this. Mike
