Hello
I just bought this dryer used and it is in great condition. The previous owners used this dryer to wash and dry their cloths prior to me picking it up, plus I tested it before I bought it. I moved to a second floor apartment. The power cord needed to be switched from a 3 to a 4 prong plug. My father switched out the cord, however the wires were crossed. Red was on black and vice versa. I didn't discover this til I tried to use it and I opened up the back and noticed it. I switched the wires back to match the colors. I asked several electricians if this would cause a short or any problems and they said no it wouldn't cause any problems: "The red and the black each deliver 110 volts to the prongs to which they are connected in the plug. As long as the neutral is correctly positioned, the power should be okay and nothing should be damaged. If he also mixed up the white wire, and put one of the red or blacks where the white is supposed to go, it could have caused a problem. If the heating element works correctly, then you are still getting 240 volts to the dryer. I'm inclined to think there is a problem where the motor is connected to the power, or there may be a separate fuse on the dryer that blew during the wiring process." -Electrician The problem: When I turn on the timer and press the start button, the heating element turns on, however the tumbler does nothing, actually the motor does nothing. I had a repairman come out to troubleshoot and could not determine the problem. Here is what we have discovered so far: It is not the belt. It is not the connections. It is not a fuse. There is no browning of wires anywhere. It is not a clog from lint. It is not the dryer switch (on the door). The motor and tumbler rotate freely when spun by hand as well as all the wheels. The actually start button was ruled out because the heating element turns on when the button is depressed. The only things it could be is the control board which looks normal other than the black circular node in the bottom left hand corner. At the top is some bubbling with no discoloration but nothing major. There is no discoloration, broken lines, or browning anywhere on the control board. OR The motor. As mentioned before the motor rotates normally and all the connections have been inspected. If it is the motor, there is no reason why it would be. So the million dollar question is: What is wrong with this blasted machine??? Thanks for taking the time to read this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ads By Google Related Models |
