The dryer on my Kenmore washer/dryer quit running. A sears service repairman wants $200 to just come look at it (before parts and Labor).

I pulled the back service panel off. Two things. The cabinet was FULL of lint. The Belt was fine.

I cleaned the cabinet out completely. I cleaned the Lint trap, and hoses. I noticed that the foam seal from the lint trap was'nt seated properly to the blower (there was a visible gap) and I dont know if that was the primary reason for lint build up or not. I corrected that. I could hear the switch turn on but it still would'nt run or spin, so I put a socket on the bolt on the back of the motor to see if it was seized up or needed a little help spinning. It started running again for a day and quit again. Noticed a burning smell, and I figured it coud be residual lint and dust on the motor burning off.

Father in law came over and held switch "on" till it started running. Burning smell again, but the dryer worked again for a day and quit.

Now I can hold the switch on and the dryer will run for 5-10 seconds before quitting. Burning smell goes with that. I looked inside the cabinet while holding switch down and the roller (the only one I think) is rolling and the belt and drum are spinning until it quits. I also hear a click when the switch quits. The Motor starts up good, but runs down slowly like power is being drained.
