Default Drum wont stop spinning
Model Number: DLE3733W   Brand: -other-   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

Hello,
I have a LG DLE3733W Dryer which is about 2 years old. A few weeks ago the dryer started doing something bizarre... the drum wont stop turning even after the program has completed. The only way to stop it is to unplug the dryer itself (its electric not gas), the moment you plug it in again the drum begins spinning even before you press the power button on the front of the unit.

I studied the service manual intensely, and came to the conclusion that it must be the centrifuge switch on the motor. I purchased a replacement motor, and installed it today. When I plugged the dryer in, it started spinning right away again. At this point im not sure what to do....

I put the dryer into diagnostic mode, and get the following codes right off the bat (no pressing the start button at all)...

1U:01
18:E8

The CHK FILTER light is also on perpetually once you turn the unit on.

Can anyone tell me with certainty what is wrong here so I can figure out the correct part to purchase, and fix this thing once and for all?

Thanks,
Rick

Did you find the service manual on the net and if yes where?

Have you tried opening the door to see if that stops it?

Sounds like a control board problem but I would like to confirm this guess but I cannot find the manual/wiring diagram.

The centrifugal switch would not cause the motor to start on it's own as usually all it is doing is switching out the start winding. If anything it would stop the motor from starting and it would sit there and buzz.

Default The service manual

Hello,

http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com...dfs/125401.pdf

The service manual can be found here. I suspected the centrifugal switch because I read on some other forums about the motor being stuck "open" or "closed". The behavior to me said "stuck open" so I replaced the motor thinking this was the most obvious issue. At least Im now prepared with a second motor for whenever the motor does give. Also had some good practice taking the dryer apart, and putting it back together.

Very simple to do, trickiest part was putting the belt back on the drum, motor and tensioner pulley.

And yes, the drum does stop when you open the door (even when the dryer is "off"), but resumed immediately upon the door being closed again.

Thanks,
Rick

It does sound like the control board.

I would check the thermistor resistance just to be sure that they are not doing some strange monitoring of it.

My Maytag is doing the same thing. It started doing it last night after I tried to dry a load. When I hit the start button I herd what sounded like a lot of change falling through the machine and than it just lost all power. It blew a breaker. I reset the breaker and now the dryer spins all the time, no heat it just spins. I tried to go throught the setting and starting a cycle and everything seems to work as it should except the fact the thing wont stop spinning untill I unplug it or open the door.

Did you ever end up figuring out what was wrong with your? If so what was the problem and how did you fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Paul
