Model Number: 417.84052500 Brand: Kenmore Age: 1 - 5 years
Hi Everyone. I have an issue I'd like help with. I have a Kenmore Dryer that is about 2 years old (Model 417.84052500). It runs w/out heat and eventually it stops and all of the far right lights just flash continuous. It’s worked fine otherwise and the power to the unit is fine.
I’ve located the dryer tech data sheet and have performed the error code test. It reads E5B which indicates a Heater Fault (no heating). It states to test the terminals on the heater relay on the electronic control. If it reads 240V on the electronic control, replace the electronic control. Pardon my ignorance. What and where is this electronic control being referred to in the tech data sheet? Any easy way to locate it? After talking to a local tech, I replaced the Thermistor control to no avail. I suppose the replacement part could be bad but it's not likely so I'd like to look at this "electronic control" part. |

For the next poor sole who deals with this. Basically all I had to do was replace the heater coil. It was faulty and visably had a broken link. About $20 for the new heater coil was the trick. If you have a Kenmore model referenced above be sure to remove the top and front panels (just remove screws) and lift the drum up (about an inch), and then pull it out (it can stay inside but enough to get at the heater coil. That's it!
Defintely look at the heater coil first before testing out the electronic controls. In my case (and what I was told by local applicance guru) is those parts rarely fail relative to the heater coil (on electric models). Last edited by rotty : 11-21-2007 at 08:48 PM. |
