Model Number: 417.84052500 Brand: Kenmore Age: 1 - 5 years
Hi all,
Have a dryer less than three years. Recently, it will work fine but sometimes it has NO HEAT. At other times (whether it is drying with heat or NO HEAT) it smells burnt and the rear panel is very hot. I am not sure if it is most likely the heating element or a belt. Any ideas? Also, I will have to call someone in for this repair any idea what parts and labor may cost for this? I don't want them trying to take advantage of me. I am in Nashville so if you also have a reputable company please let me know. Last dryer repair I had in L.A. was a man trying to sell me parts I didnt need and two hours labor. I researched the problem and fixed it myself and it needed no parts and took 30 minutes. Thanks a bunch Ads By Google Related Models |

Undo the dryer from the exhaust
Run a load If the load dries correctly then you have a vent problem. Clean/check the vent system. Make sure the outside louvers open fully. If you do not want lint in the house. Take a pair of pantyhose, put one leg into the other and attach this to the dryer exhaust. Leave enough room behind the dryer so it can blow out like a windsock. Run a load. Both the above will allow you to check the air flow and temp. Also the above is NOT recommended for a gas dryer due to possible carbon monoxide problems.

Hi,
Check your dryer vent to make sure it's clean and not pinched off behind the dryer. Also clean around the blower housing inside the dryer to remove any lint build up. Another thing you could check is were the dryer cord is connected to the back of the dryer. Check to make sure the screws that connect the dryer cord are tight. Quote:
