My dryer portion works in the auto mode and dries the clothing, but it will not shut off. It shuts off in the timed mode. What is the problems and how do I go about checking it.

Dee,

The first thing you want to test is the exhaust vent. Disconnect the exhaust pipe from the back of the dryer, check and make sure the lint filter is clean, and run the dryer on the auto dry setting, if the timer advances, you have a restricted , clogged vent and will need to clean the pipe from the dryer connection to the outside vent hood. If the timer still does not advance, then we'd have a weak thermostat or broken wire in the harness.

Good Luck,

:) :) :)
