hotpoint gas dryer
Model Number: DLL 1550BGLWH Brand: Hotpoint Age: More than 10 years
When I turn the timer dial I can hear it humming which is a new sound for me. When I turn the start dial nothing happens. As I tried it again I heard the gas ignite which was scary. Any ideas of what could be wrong and can it be easily fixed?

If the gas was ignited with the motor not running then the motor has to be replaced.
