I have an Amana gas dryer (model ALG230RAW) that is around 5 years old. My problem is similar to: Amana dryer - Intermittent heating lynkers Dryer Repair 3 09-17-2010 01:30 PM.

I have replaced all three thermostats - to no avail - thinking that the gas burner is OK - as the igniter turns on and the gas burner lights and burns about 2 minutes from a cold start and then shuts off - with the igniter recycling about every 2 minutes. I haven't watched to see how long it takes to start the burner again during the dry cycle - if at all - but it must be a long time - if it does at all.

Similar to "lynkers", I began a cycle and checked the dryer after 5-10 minutes. The clothes were warm, but definitely not hot. Began immediately drying again and checked again, and the clothes were cool. Repeated this procedure multiple times and on all possible settings on the machine. It continued this intermittent heating. It seemed like if I had it shut off for a little while and started it again, it would heat but then lose heat within a few minutes.

I am mechanically inclined when it comes to gas dryers. Sounds like the gas valve coils may be bad in my dryer as well - right?

Can you tell me what the part # would be for a new gas burner coil kit for my model - if that is the problem - and where I can find a copy of the complete service manual for this dryer - showing how to install the replacement coils?

Your assistance with this problem is appreciated.

Best.

John

Read my problem above, almost identical to yours. Watch for the igniter to glow orange(thru the peep hole in front of dryer), produce no fire(after first time, it will have fire) and go off. It will repeat this cycle.

Watch this video, its a piece of cake.
YouTube - ‪29" Dryer Gas Valve Solenoid Coil Kit Replacement (part #279834)‬‏

You can search this board by model/part# to find your parts.

Good Luck.

hello, new to the form , but i am also pretty good at fixing almost anything. i have an ameanda drier, and i watch a video on the internet how to change the coils. now my drier has a peep hole. and inside i can see it get the glow. its about 30 sec then gose out. would this be a good way to say the drier needs new coils?

Replacing the coils worked for me. I'm not sure I understand your inquiry.

Replacing the coils should work - as long as the burner lights off from the igniter and the flame runs for 1 to 2 minutes before shutting off. Once it cools off (about 5-10 minutes), the burner should recycle on for about 30 seconds or so before shutting off again.

If the igniter lights - but the burner flame does not come on - the gas valve will probably have to be replaced in its entirety.

Try replacing the coils first - not very expensive. If that doesn't work, replace the gas valve and it should work.

The coils are sold as a set of 2 - replace both at trhe same time. Make sure you order the coils for your specific model. good luck.
