Ok I have a bit of smarts but this has got me stumped. I have a whirlpool dryer that was given to me for free. When the other person had it the unit was working. I had to change the power cable since my outlet would not acept the cord and all went well. I have 242V across the outside terms. I check the resistance on the thermal fuse (.02) so that is ok.
The thing that bothers me is the timer will not even run when plugged in. What about checking the door switch? What terminals do I probe to check continuity?

Help and any other suggestions.

Update: I did check the door switch and it is ok, but I found something interesting with the voltage lines on back.

Red to Black = 242V
Black to Neutral 59.5V
Red to Neutral= 182V

Just on a whim I flipped the wires the only one that changed was Black to Neutral = 51.7V

Hope this helps.

When you say you changed the power cable was it from a 4 prong to a 3 prong?

If yes you have to connect a grounding strap from Neutral to the machine frame.

Unplug the dryer and measure the line voltage.
If it is still no good you have a house wiring problem.
You may have a bad Neutral.

No the original cable was three wire but different design connectors. I check line voltage at hose connection and have 240V across the main terms.

I took drum out and have the motor exposed but the thing that concerns me is that there is only 59.V going down from term block to motor. I will say this that sometines when I touch certain parts of the dryer I get a low level shock, to me this is not normal.

WOH, Back up the BUS, Unplug the dryer, Go to the WALL Rec, R-B=240,R-W=120,B-W=120, If you have ANYTHING other than this, The problem is NOT in the dryer, Its in the HOUSE WIRING!!!!

Well with the advice I checked something, I live in my x father in law apartment building and he has another set of Washer and dryer.
I probed the known good connector and did get the correct values as stated earlier. I went back to bad rec and found 240/30/30. I opend up adjacent elect box and foung the neutral is not connected to anything. I will attch and retest and post results.
