Can a Frigidaire part#AP2108182 be used to replace a GE Thermostat assembly #AP3794592 in a GE Profile Harmony gas dryer? This was done by a repair tech who had to cut the mounting base off the original GE part, drilled holes through the pop rivets that were still attached and then screwed the Frigidaire part onto the base before installing it in the dryer. The original problem was that the blower wouldn't come on more than about 10-20 seconds after the dryer lit the first time. After that, the blower wouldn't start up again for at least an hour or more. Btw, it still doesn't work.

Any alteration to the original design are illegal without authorization from the manufacturer.

Thanks Gene, your reply is very helpful. I will use it to try to persuade the company to install the appropriate GE part.

You can call GE customer service and they probably will give you a legal support and expertise in such case.
