My maytag dryer stopped working mid cycle. There is no burning smell so I believe the heating element is ok. I also have power to the dryer as the timer functions. Upon opening up the dryer i see two clamped connections to what I believe is the heating element (i am a novice!) . One is twin red wires which seems ok, the other is a single red wired connection that seems to have suffered some burn damage. ANy suggestions to troubleshoot/verify issue/and fix would be GREATLY appreciated! ThANKS

A model number may help others help you.
Many units have a thermal fuse mounted on the blower assembly perhaps this is blown.
Unplug the unit and check the fuse with a meter should be 0 ohms.
Jiggery Pokery method is. Unplug the unit. Remove both wires from the fuse, short them together and tape them up so they will not short to the frame. Plug the unit in and give it a try.
If blown, replace the fuse ASAP as it is a critical safety device re: prevents lint fires which can turn into house fires.
Also clean/check your vent system and the blower as these are the most common causes of it blowing. |
