the dryer will work if it is on the manual side but when I put it on automatic it will not start.

There should be tech notes under the top cover that will allow you to generate error codes, if they are in there and do some diagnostics. Focus on the machine control board.

I am not sure what you mean by top cover. The controls are on the front of dryer.
