Dryer Repair

I have a thumping noise in my dryer. Sounds as though I am drying a pair of shoes. I removed the drum and found a 1.5 inch crack in it, located at the edge moving toward the center. Do you believe this is the cause of my thumping. If so what may have caused this. Can I use jb weld to repair.

This a LG gas
