I've already isolated the problem, with the help of your video Gas Dryer Troubleshooting Video , to the thermal fuse which is open. I was wondering what other component can cause the fuse to blow or is it just the age of the dryer. The resistance across the ignitor is 95 ohms which according to the wiring diagram on the dryer should be 50 to 300 ohms. I removed the thermal fuse and connected its two leads together just for a functional test and the burner ignited and the dryer functioned normally. Disconnected everything, ordered the fuse and decided to post here to see if ther is something else I should be looking at in the meantime.

Update to my original post. Replaced the thermal fuse and the dryer works fine. As a troubleshooting note the voltage across the ignitor was 125v for about 1/2 a second then dropped down to 18v. (a symptom that I've seen in other posts). With the dryer in the failing state the voltage across the thermal fuse was 125v indicating an open fuse.

Found bad thermal fuse, just wondering if I should worry about what took the fuse out?

I asked that same question in my original post but no one responded. In my case I replaced the fuse and the dryer has been running for the past six days without another failure. Only time will tell....

Thanks, I replaced the fuse tonite and it seems to be OK, but I assumed that something caused it to blow! Oh well, as long as it's working!
