Do not buy a new motor yet!!! If holding the start switch in, and the motor runs fine without drawing excessive current ( like over 8 amps) you have a good motor. If the motor start switch fails to switch to the run winding, you would hear a louder than normal motor hum!! Then smoke!!

You do have a relay in the console. I would check that 1st. Most whirlpool(kenmore) motors are pretty good. The relay # is AP3037419..wrench

does drum turn when motor is running .if it does then its motor for sure

whirlpool dryer same as kenmore problem =push start it operates let go it stops. how do i fix thanks joe s

Hi niggdj

Most likely the problem with you dryer is a bad control board.

Normally it should sense the start of the motor and it does not. I've seen it many times before.

- The part number for the control board is AP4319168
