Default Gas Dryer intermittent heat, Gas smell
Model Number: LGR5620KQ1   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 1 - 5 years

Dryer seems to heat ok at first but takes a long time to dry. The problem seems intermittent, and the auto time feature isnt working for the timer. I am going to check the manual timer after the post here. Twice we have checked the dryer while it was running and it was cold, and strong smell of natural gas in laundry area and drum. Vent seems fine, good flow outside.

Hi mikmica

Most likely the problem with your dryer is a bad coils (#13 & 14 on the burner break down diagram) on the gas valve.

- The part number for the new set of coils AP3094251

Coil kit for the gas valve

- Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool dryer Model LGR5620KQ1

Good luck.
Gene.

I did a little more checking, looking through the hole in the front to watch the burner action during cycle. Seems it lights and runs fine but as soon as it reaches its high temp and shuts off the burner, it doesnt re-light. I see the glow ciol glowing every minute trying to light but goes back out after 10 seconds or so with failed ignition of the burner. Could that still be the coils?

the coils solved the problem, dries better than new, think it was defect from factory all along.
