Dryer won't start. Timer still works. I thought of just relacing the starter switch and see what happens, but don't know if the door switch may be the problem, or something else. Don't want to spend for a service call on an old dryer. Any troubleshooting advice?

Hi vns

You are on the right way. The first thing you have to check are the door switch and the start switch.
Keep me updated, please.

Gene.

Is there some way to check if either switch is working or not before I replace them? I don't have any meters but could borrow one (volt meter or ammeter) or whatever. Thanks.

You have to check switches for continuity and you need a meter to do it.
Check the start switch for continuity across two terminals with switch in start position. If it's open, it has to be replaced. The bad news - the part is no longer available.

Gene.

Thanks Gene, story of my life, with the main switch being no longer available. I do believe that switch is OK and has continuity, if the meter is good, and I see you have a door switch available. How is that accessed? It looks small from your photo, with no wires. Does it just pull out (pry) or do I have to take the front of the dryer off? Thanks.
