Purchased spring 2006, began problem fall 2010. Problem - powers on for no reason and without human touch. Trouble shooting - found defective door interlock switch and replaced. Also replaced light bulb inside. Problem still exists. Other possible(s) point to main control board/panel. Before purchasing $$$$ part, am I missing something simple? Why did this happen? Being in Hawaii, only use a dryer in emergencies (i.e. during rainy/wet times) and in the last five years only used a half a dozen times. Doesn't seem right or has this been a common problem with this particular Whirlpool dryer??
Bill (Hawaii)
P.S. Purchased DIY manual on line shows pictures of generic dryer not particular my model, therefore some troubleshooting was not able to perform (i.e. pulling back panel to access thermal fuse).

Hi Bill The problem with putting all the electronics in your model is that it is difficult to diagnose. My thinking is that the inactivity and humid climate has created a problem in the console assembly, but you will have to replace it to confirm that and it is an expensive part. Here is a link to a manual (freebe) for an earlier version of your model which should be much more helpful. https://secured.whirlpoo...64beaa/$FILE/Duetdry.pdfGiven your location and lack of regular use I strongly recommend you replace this machine with a basic dryer with no electronics rather than spend big bucks to repair this one. I just do not think this type of machine is the right one for your usage requirements and your climate.

 Thank you, very good suggestion and option. Yes we do live in a rather humid environment at times. Thank you again.....
