Model Number: FDG336LBS0 Brand: Frigidaire Age: More than 10 years
The dryer seems to work fine but does not get up to high temperature which I think should be around 160. It only goes to 100.
The coils were replaced last year. A new belt was installed two weeks ago and that's when the temp was found to be low but the belt may not be related. The vent is clear, good flow out which is think is what it always is. There is no or very little dust inside the machine mostly on the bottom plate but the ducts, front area and blower all clean. I dryer has two thermostats. One I think is for a high limit and the other by the blower for regular temp regulation. I think the one by the blower is partly working. That's a guess from reading past posts. The parts breakdown I have only gives a figure number for the thermostat. In a prior post Gene posted the following: Frigidaire Gas Dryer works but No Heat, Why?? The parts are: 1. The igniter (#74 on the burner break down diagram) 2. The flame sensor (#79 on the burner break down diagram) 3. The safety thermostat (#33 on the cabinet break down diagram) 4. The heat control thermostat (#15 on the motor break down diagram) The above was for a FDG336NBS1. I think mine is the same and the heat control in #4 is the same as mine. The unit starts with a big orange glow which then goes to a flame. I can't see well through the vent. The flame does not go out i.e. it is not starting and stopping but seems to be on all the time. This is a little puzzling as I would think it ran full blast for a while then shut off and keep doing that to regulate the temperature. Instead of going on/off it's going all the time but not up to high temp. That would seem like the the gas flow is restricted so can only make a small flame to only get the temp to 100. So I'm not sure if it's the thermostat or restricted flame. ?? I'm looking for a head check on the problem and if correct is the part above the one for my dryer? Ads By Google Related Models |

Ran the dryer again.
On starting the glow gets large in about 15-20 seconds and it lights something. The glow stops and I can see a flame flickering in the front (I'm looking through the back vent). The flickering flame is always there and the dryer temp at the back vent goes to 120 degrees. I think it should be going to 160. If anyone knows the temp I should be measuring please let me know. I'm not sure how dryers operate. I would think that they should cycle the heat. That is, the dryer flame would always be on high and when it got to temp it would shutoff. Then go on again and so on cycling until the clothes were done. What I see is the flame in the front is always going and no cycling. The temp gets to 120 and stays there until the timer gets to cool down. The flame in the front goes off and eventually the dryer stops. The drying times have increased so I think 120 is too low. I don't think it's the thermostat but not sure. Again, what I think I should see is cycling. Instead I see a flame all the time but the temp does not get to 160 which I think is what it should get to. ?? |

Took the front panel off and got a look at the flame which was low. I tried to clean around the gas valve outlet with a wire brush but could not get access to the tip. I would just get my little finger in there and wiped and scrapped around the outlet with my fingernail. I did not feel any obstructions in there either hard or soft like cobwebs or built up lint, nothing. Everything was clear and clean in there.
I rapped the gas valve several times with the screwdriver handle and buttoned up the machine. It then ran with much higher temp. I put in a load of washed clothes and it dried them in the usual time so I think at least for now it will run properly. Just for reference if someone is reading this for info the thermostat is 140-145 and not a problem. The heat selection comes from resistors in the heat selection knob which adds a bias to the voltage on the thermostat making it cut out early for low temps. It was thought that possibly the selection switch was broken or stuck causing the thermostat to cut out low but it never cycled anyway so not the problem. The problem was low flame and I think cured by rapping the gas valve. |
