I installed new heater coils and started the dryer. Seemed be doing fine, so I opened the door. There was a loud pop, a flash, and one of the coils quit. What happened? What happens if the coil touches itself (not other coil)? I don't want to buy another set of coils if I have another problem. The coil that is out now is not the same one as before I started the repairs.

When I went to look up your model number it shows this as a gas dryer. Are you sure this is the correct model number? If not can you supply the correct model number for your dryer.

I's not sure what happened. That is a typo. It should be DBXR453ETOWW for the electric.

Ok, It sounds like one of your coils touched chassis ground. Unfortunatley you will need another heater kit. Be sure and replace the insulators and the coils, being careful not to let them get close to the metal. Also when reinstalling the drum try not to let it touch them as well. If everything is good and straight, then it should work properly. Here is your part number as well as a link to the parts diagram. Part number: AP2620171
