Think of it as a link, a wire, that in a dryer typically connects power source to heat source (heating element). A thermal fuse is there as a safety device to prevent dryer from overheating (or worse). When it senses that the temperature went over a certain limit, the wire will break, thus cutting power to the heating element.

Common causes for a thermal fuse to break:

1. Clogged dryer vent - will cause overheating and raise temperature inside the dryer, triggering the break in the fuse.
2. Faulty hi-limit thermostat
3. Nothing lasts forever. Sometimes a bad fuse is just a bad fuse.

So, if a fuse goes out, check the vent. You may want to replace the hi-limit t-stat just in case also.

I put on a new heating element and a new timer because it wasnt heating. After all that its still not heating. The is a small piece that about 1 inch in size that has 2 terminal one end connect to the timer. Do you know what piece Im talking about the model number is CYE2000AYW

Hi Vonda,

The piece you are talking about is a timer resistor. It has nothing to do with the heating problem.

There are three parts which you have to check for continuity:

The hi-limit thermostat (#3 on the break down diagram).

The thermal fuse (#5 on the break down diagram).

The cycling thermostat (#14 on the break down diagram).

If any of these parts is open - it has to be replaced.

- The part number for the hi-limit thermostat is AP311455

- The part number for the thermal fuse (including the hi-limit thermostat) is AP415996

- The part number for the cycling thermostat is AP311676

I have a Frigidaire Dryer Model CER3600AS1 that is still blowing out air, but it's only cold air. Does anyone have any ideas what could be causing this so I can try and get it fixed?

I just bought the AP2619300 drum bearing kit for a GE DS4550 dryer. I replaced the original bearing a few years ago, but didn't replace the front slides and I think that contributed to the recurring bearing failure. The instructions with the kit say to clean all old grease off the diffuser. They don't say anything about greasing the new bearing, which is dry. Has something changed, i.e. if there was originally grease and now there isn't, or did they forget to say to grease the bearing? If it is supposed to be greased, with what?

The first thing I would check is 240V at the power outlet. If one of the power legs is missing - the motor will still work, but the heater would not.

If there is nothing wrong, you have to check for continuity: the heater (#15 on the break down diagram), the hi-limit thermostat (#33 on the break down diagram) and the cycling thermostat (# 15 on the break down diagram).

Any part with an open circuit has to be replaced.

Even the new redesigned GE drum bearing does not need any lubrication, you can use a grease to lower a friction.
