Maytag electric dryer makes terrible noise when running ...took inspection plate off in rear.. can push in on shaft while dryer is running and noise subsides.. bearing?? or what!! please help!!

Open it up and check belt, idler wheel, rear rollers, front glides.
If a bearing has slop also check the shaft in case it also has to be replaced.

Check the blower wheel, is it tight on the shaft and and has nothing between it and the case.

Might as well also check the felt seals.
Just a thought!!! Before opening it up run your finger around the seals (from inside the tub) just to make sure that something is not jammed in there. Bra wires are famous for this.

Give everything a good check and a good cleaning. Might as well clean and check your vent system since you now have an overhauled dryer.

Replace the 2 drum rollers, the belt and the idler pully. You will need a pair of snap ring pliers to remove the drum rollers. Make this repair. That is a great dryer you should be able to keep running for 30 years. Tom ********************************************

I have a maytag lde612 dryer. I think I need to replace the rollers and shafts. You indicate that the idler pulley should be replaced, but the exploded parts diagram lists nothing by that name. Any help. Thanks

They call it a Pulley-id

Hey Tom, don,t forget to clean out the blower housing, and the check the vent to the outside, when you are done to be sure the vent is clear. A clogged vent will kill a dryer. Tom ********************************************

I assume that to access the drum rollers and the idler pulley for replacing them, I will have to work from the front of the dryer, removing the drum, etc?

Yes

While you have it opened up you might as well also check your belt, front glides, drum seals etc. Basically an overhaul.
Also give it a good cleaning including the blower wheel.
Good idea to check/clean your vent system while you are at it.
