I need to replace the dryer door switch assembly. Is this something that I can easily do myself or should I call an appliance repair shop? If doing myself, how best to access the defective part? Thanks in advance.

Lewbie,

It's pretty much an easy repair, can be done with basic handtools, and a putty knife(or simmilar flat blade).

Is this the part you have ?

Part number: AP3132865
Part number: AP3132865

To replace the door switch,

Turn off the power to the unit or unplug the power cord.

Remove the lint filter, remove the two phillips head screws holding the filter housing to the top panel.

Using a putty knife, insert the blade in the seam, between the top and front panel, approximately 2 or 3 inches in from the side, and push in, to release the spring retainer clip(s) and raise the top,( you may want to use a rod or move the dryer out a few inches so you can prop the top against the wall).

Open the dryer door, you may want to prop it open as well, and remove the two small phillips head screws(each side of the lever) remove the wires from the wire clip, and lift the switch assembly up and out.

Reverse the procedure and test unit operation.

My guess is, it'll take you 15 to 20 minutes to do the repair.

Good Luck,
:) :) :)
