push button it starts, release button it stops.
as long as button is depressed, unit will run but no heat, and timers do not advance

If you have a simple start switch without a relay, you have a bad start switch on the motor. I would pull dryer apart and stick 115 volts to pins 4&5 of the motor to confirm.
