My Whirlpool electric dryer motor just humms for a few seconds then shuts off when I try to turn the dryer on. Everything is free spinning. Does the motor have an internal starter switch?

It is a motor issue. It does have a motor switch, but you can't get a switch by itself. You have to replace the whole motor. Tom ApplianceEducator.com
