I have a Maytag Neptune electric dryer, model MDE4000AZW, that is making a very loud humming noise. It sounds like it could be the motor, but I opened up the dryer and noticed a well worn band in the metal near the front of the tumbler, so the tumbler is rubbing on something. It also appears that pieces have broken from the front tumbler bearings, but I would have thought worn tumbler bearings would cause squeaking and not humming? The tumbler also doesn't seem to turn as easily as it did when the dryer was new and the front of the tumbler appears to be seated too low (could worn tumbler bearings cause this?).

Some days the humming noise is tolerable, but other days it drives everyone out of the house. Also, on days when the humming is intolerable the dryer sometimes will make a few short squeaks and after that the humming becomes quieter. Also, it seems like the more I put in the dryer the louder the humming gets. I am not sure what needs replacing here. Any ideas? The dryer works fine otherwise. It's just noisy.
