Hello, just joined the forum, lots of very good information.

My Amana dryer recently stopped spinning. When the start button is pushed the motor comes on and tries to turn the drum but no go. By hand it will only spin easily in one direction.

I am looking for the service manual and any advice on a repair. I don't mind fixing it if I can get the proper manuals for dis-assembly etc.

I appreciate any help.

Well, I am going to tear into this thing. It appears that I have to take off the back and sides as one piece. I will post what I find. I am still very interested in a link to a maintenance manual if anyone has one.

Thanks

Eric

Well got this dryer disassembled and the problem fixed.

First to take it apart:
1) remove lower front panel, two screws on outside bottom
2) remove front panel around opening, two screw and disconnect door switch
3)tip up top for inspection, two screws in front top
4)remove plastic housing connecting vent to motor blower.

Upon tipping up the top, there was no evidence of a problem. Removed the plastic housing/cover on the vent, this allowed one to look into the blower. In the blower was a sock, which was preventing the blower (and thus the motor and drum) from rotating.

Vacuumed and cleaned things up and put it back together. Great Christmas present that no major repairs or new dryer was needed immediately.

Hope this helps someone else

Eric
