The heat on my dryer is working properly. I am not getting any. I looked at it today and when it started the heat came on and then shut off after a few minutes. It is a gas dryer-Maytag Mdl# HYG3658AWW. Any Ideas on what I should check. I do have a meter. Thanks, Jason

Yes, you need to replace the coils on the gas valve. The secondary coil is bad, but it is best to replace them both. It is a quick and easy repair, and not expensive either. Tom Appliance Educator, Appliance Parts, Washer and Dryer Parts, Refridgerator and Freezer Parts, Stove and Oven Parts

would this be the part # to which you speak of, and if so do I need 1 or 2. There is no mention of a primary and secondary, does this refer to thier order on the valve? Thanks

If you look again, you will see the whirlpool # is 279834. That is what I keep on my truck. There are both coils in the bag. The picture shows only one. Very misleading!!! But after 30 years of me doing this, believe me, there are 2. Not only are there two, but they are distinctly different!! So once you get the parts and look at the valve you will see how insanly simple this is to repair. You don't even have to shut the gas off. On top of the gas valve in the front, sits the coils. Unplug the wires coming to them. Then there will be a small metal bracket holding them in place, with 2 phillip head screws. Remove them, and the bracket will come off. Then notice the position the coils are in. I mean where the terminals are to plug in the wires. Take 1 off, and try to put the new one, in the same position, and then do the other in the same position, because they fit in the bracket only one way. So if you have them in right, and the bracket will fit nug, put the 2 phillip head screws in, and hook up the wires, and, you got it. This is real easy. Don't sweat it!!! Once you do this you will be ready to tackle the washer!! LOL!!! Tom Appliance Educator, Appliance Parts, Washer and Dryer Parts, Refridgerator and Freezer Parts, Stove and Oven Parts
