I replaced the door switch # AP2042622 becasue the machine just stopped turning on with no prior warning signs whatsoever. I found the old door switch stuck in the depressed position and could get it to pop out but it it was very sticky, so i thought the switch was the problem. New switch, machine still won't start. Having the main circuit 240V checked by an elxctrician friend tonight but the circuit doesn't act strange, no sign of pop or burn etc. I wondered if the fact that the new switch had an extra contact, slightly wider than the power contacts, that I didnot connect could be an issue. I'm thinking perhaps it could be a ground contact but there was no ground for the old switch.

I do not know what the third contact would be but the switch does not have to be grounded.
As long as you connected to the Common and Normally Open contacts on the switch it should be OK.

Note: That the motor runs off of 120 volts so check for the 240 and the two 120 volts legs.

Take a look in the control console to see if the wiring diagram is in there.
Could be that you have blown a thermal fuse.
It will look like a standard thermostat but will really be a fuse.
