My dryer runs and heats but soon after it blows the breaker. It is on a 220 and the only thing on that circuit. What could it be?

It could be as simple as a weak breaker. Do you own, or have access to an ammeter? If you do, test the amps drawn by the dryer as it is running. It should be well within 30.

The dryer is on 2 20 amp breakers. It is tripping those. Should it be only on 1 30 amp. What do they recommend for the size of the breaker.

By the National Electric Code, an electric dryer needs to be on its own circuit, protected by a (double) 30-Amp breaker. The motor and control circuit runs off one side of that double; and the heat circuit uses the other.

For your safety, it might be a good idea to have an electrician check to make sure your house is within code.
