Maytag dryer will not cool down during cool down cycle. It heats up and stays hot, overdrying and often causing items to shrink. What do I need to fix?

You may find that your heater coil assembly has broken, or sagged, and part of the coil is touching metal. To test this, remobe the front of the dryer and disconnect the wires to the heater (the larger, red wires). check each terminal of the heater to see if there is any continuity with chassis ground. If so, replace the heater.
