Default Dryer runs, but no heat
Model Number: LGR8648LW0   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com

The dryer is running fine, but no heat is produced. I checked the heating element and it isn't glowing, no ignition.

I bypassed the high limit fuses and still no ignition.

I'm suspecting that the heating element has failed, but can anyone tell me if there are other probable causes I should check before I buy a new heating element?

Much appreciated!

Default igniter

sounds like the glow bar is bad. take the back off start the dryer and look at the bar it should glow red for a few sec then the gas valve will click and you should have a flame.

I checked that and there is no glow, I'm assuming the igniter is bad. Let me know if you think it could be something else, otherwise I'm just going to replace the igniter.

Thanks a lot!

Which part exactly did you bypass: the high limit thermostat (#15 on the diagram) or the thermal fuse (#7 on the diagram)?

You have to have a simple ohmmeter to check all parts involved in the heating circuit for continuity. Bypassing can help but not always.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL LGR8648LW0 | AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is the Wiring diagram.

Gene,

Thanks for your response. I bypassed numbers 15 and 16 on the diagram. I bought a new igniter element today, and still no luck.

I know little to nothing about electrical, but you would suggest an ohmmeter to help locate the failure?

Any ideas what may have failed if it isn't the igniter, but it's not heating up?

Most likely the problem is a bad thermal fuse (#7).

There are at least five parts in the heating circuit and replacing them one by one just by guessing is very costly. If you would like to fix appliances (electrical problems) yourself you must have a multimeter.

- The thermal fuse Part number: AP3132867

Part number: AP3132867
