My dryer does not get hot and in addition it does not turn off. I noticed that the knob does not move it stays at the same point I set it on when I initially turn it on. I have an electric dryer by Whirlpool it is the Estate Series. Please give me some assistance and some direction to tell me at least what should be my starting point towards repairing my dryer?

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL TEDX640PQ1 29"electric Dryer | AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is the wiring diagram

Does the timer not advance in both timed dry and auto modes?

If yes then the following.
Try flipping the breaker off/on slowly a couple times, sometimes you can loose half the line without actually tripping the breaker.
If this does nothing, check the voltage at the plug
L1 to L2 should be 240 volts
L1 to Neutral and L2 to Neutral, both should be 120 volts.
Unplug the unit and check the wires at the terminal strip in the machine to make sure none are loose or burned out
Check the power at the terminal strip.
Be careful as 240 volts is lethal !!!

If it does advance in timed dry then odds are that your heating coil is burned out.
In auto modes the timer motor gets power through the heating coil when the coil is shut off. In timed dry mode it gets power directly from the line. See Timer Switch 0 in the wiring diagram.

Default Whirlpool tedx640pq1 Electric

Can this dryer operate on 120 volt only. Is it possible to rewire the elements or configure jumpers to do this? I realize that you will not have the same heating effect, but I do not have 220 volts to the area of installation. Some heat is better than none....

See the attachment for the wiring diagram

No this unit will not run off of 120 volts as the timer motor is 240 volts.
