Default Gas dryer...tumble, no heat, igniter OK
Model Number: LGC7848DQ0   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

Dryer tumbles, but no heat. Igniter does not light, and no actuation perceptible in coils.

Igniter reads 63 ohms
Flame sensor reads 0-1 ohm.
Gas coils both read open.

I was about to order new coils, then upon further review on this forum, I read that the coils may still be good, even with no continuity reading.

My question. Is there another thermostat or device that I don't know about that would "trip out" the gas circuit? I don't see anything else on the exploded diagrams.

Thanks

Mark in MA

Default The flame sensor must have continuity

If this puppy:a flame sensor 2.bmp has no continuity or is open then that glowbar will not come on.

Default The fuse will blow but...

If the lint cause the fuse mounted on the blower housing to blow then the glow bar won't come on but the dryer will run! a dryer filter housing.jpg

Default To avoid this fuse from blowing again and again...

The filter housing must be removed and washed out. The blower compartment will need to be vacuumed. The whole dryer will basically need to be cleaned and the vent pipe too. Or that fuse will continue to blow.

My ignitor is itermittent. I opened dryer and found large compacted lint ball near blower fan. Cleaned out everything in front around blower but not vent in back. Still itermittent. Ignitor glows about every 3rd or 4th attempt. Checked all elec parts except thermal fuse and flame sensor. Looks like I would have to disconnect gas line and remove gas assembly to get to flame sensor. Any suggestions?

Awesome.

I don't have access to the dryer again until tomorrow night, but I'll jumper the fuse out to confirm operation, then replace it.

I'll keep you updated.

Thanks for the help

Default voncile my guess is you do not have....

The dryer needs to be completely cleaned out and the vent pipe too. You might as well take down the dryer and give it a good cleaning , then you can get to the flame sensor easier with the drum out of the dryer.

Default Sublime ...

Did I imagine it? Upon further inspection, the ignitor comes on followed by gas and flame and alls good for the first few heat cycles. After that, ignitor glows but no gas. Don't hear the coils clicking anymore. If I stop and then restart dryer after a few minutes the same cycle repeats. Got new coils today, but same behavior.

I have not removed the drum, but I have now vacuumed out the blower area and inspected the vent pipe. All clear.

Default Get some more coils

Make sure your connections are all tight. Maybe you got a pair of dud solenoids. The dryer is supposed to cycle the gas on and off all during the cycle. Feel the solenoids when it quits and see if they are real hot to the touch. If so then they are probably bad.
