Model Number: res7745rq Brand: Roper Age: 1 - 5 years
My dryer is having a odd issue, the dryer works sometimes, but other times it will stop partway through a cycle, or not start at all. When it does not start, holding the timer clockwise, with not enough force to actually turn it, will cause the dryer to run, and sometimes stay running, other times it will stop as soon as I stop holding the timer. If the end of cycle buzzer is on, it will alarm as soon as the dryer stops, no matter where in the cycle it is. It seems to me that the timer is the issue, but when I called the local parts store, they told me the timer is very rarely the issue. I am grateful for any advice.

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for res7745rq models | AppliancePartsPros.com I would agree with you that the most likely cause is the timer since you can get it to run just by putting some force on the timer. The most usual cause of this type of problem is the motor overheating and tripping it's internal thermal protect thermostat but since this requires the unit to sit for a couple minutes so that the thermostat can reset and you can get yours to restart right away, it does not sound like your problem. Also a good idea to check/clean your vent systen whenever you have to work on a dryer.
