FROMBYU If you check, when the timer call,s for heat the contact is closed. The current goes down the red wire from the timer to the thermal cut off.It leaves there through the red/white down to the operating thermostat. The operating thermostat is closed ,the current passes through the operating stat which is then a red wire, down to the high limit thermostat which is closed, then through the element. That,s 1 side of the 240 volts. The other red wire going to the element is the other side of the 240 coming from the main thermal block. The common is the white/black on the high limit this completes the circuit.

Follow the directions (I do recommend getting the correct parts) I'm not sure what those are for, but it's not a Whirlpool!
The "To Harness" is talking about the wire harness.

Hi Nat,
Ok, so I did just like the part manual said - got a jumper wire, and connected the free coil terminal with the thermal cut off (correct if i am wrong) (where red wire connects)
Now the coil is glowing red all the time, even on Wrinkle Guard setting, when it should be no heat. What did I do wrong?
And also, on the picture with burned area, is that correct part used? it really looks like it should be something with two screws, not one...

That's what I was saying before those aren't the correct thermostats for your dryer, it comes in a kit part number 279816 which is both of the thermostats on the element housing.

Ordered kit 279816, will post more when I install. But what concerns me is the Wrinkle Guard setting - and how the coil was on. I wonder if the coil now is wired to be on every time when the motor runs... But I'll post more after I get the kit.
Thank you.

It's more likely the incorrect thermostats that were put in. If you need a complete wiring diagram to check all the wires I can probably locate one.

Hi again... So I installed the kit, and I referred to Replacing 279816 thermal cutoff kit (page 2)post. I still have the problem that on any setting the coil glows... Fluff air, Wrinkle Guard - manual says there is no neat on those settings. I connected black/white wire to jumper wire, so now jumper wire connects the High Limit thermostat terminal #1, and the coil. on the other side of the thermostat there is a red wire now. I tried switching them - no difference.

Where did you get that part? It is wired correctly. Although that still doesn't look like kit # 279816.....
