When I turn the knob to start my GE electric dryer, it tries but won't start. It reminds me of turning a car's ignition key. It squeals but won't quite turnover the engine.

Open the dryer door and tape the door switch. Turn the drum manually while the start switch turned ON. If the dryer will start to tumble, the motor has gone bad.
For any further assistance, including the correct part numbers, post the complete model number of the dryer.
Gene.

Thanks for your help, Gene!
It's a General Electric model number DBLR333ETOAA.
I did as you said. I taped the door switch and turned the drum manually while I turned the start switch on. The dryer DID start to tumble.

Philip, Sounds like the problem is a bad motor start windings. The correction is to replace the motor. - The motor Part number: AP4295548
