Default dryer belt installation
Model Number: MDE5500AYW   Brand: Maytag   Age: 5 - 10 years   

trying to put dryer back together. belt seems a bit loose. how does it need to be routed to be tight?

Also, how do you know when the thermostats are bad?

You can check the thermostats with an ohm meter, test for continutiy. I'll try to locate a picture of the belt route, might be easier thatn trying to type it all out.

Ok, I couldn't find a good picture and I hope you can overlook my crude attemp to tweek a picture. I hope it helps you.

I figured it out. The belt goes on top of the idle roller first and then goes around the motor and back up around the tumbler. It's kind of a pain to put on but it is snug afterwards.
