Default Dryer finishes cycle but clothers damp - Test moisture sensor ?
Model Number: GEX9868JQ0   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 1 - 5 years

Appliance Parts from AppliancePartPros.com
This dryer heats but and spins but doesn't completely dry the clothes ( Whirlpool Senson GEX9868JQ ) . Good voltage, clean exhaust path , no error codes ) . I have gone thought the diagnsotic procedures in the Tech Sheet and everything seems to check out OK ( diagnostic mode and checking circuits ). However , the section on the moisture sensor is a little vague with regarding testing the sensor itself ( sensor wiring harness with the 2 capacitors PN - AP3088383 ) . I really would like to test those capacitors . At this point I am thinking that the problem is in the control board but I want to fully test the sensor before I give up and get another machine with simpler electro/mechanical controls . Any recommendations are appreciated.

Hi rkpatt

If it is warm inside the dryer at the end of the cycle but closes still damp, most likely the problem is clogged vent outside the dryer. There is very simple test. Disconnect the vent hose from the back of the dryer and run a couple loads with the vent hose disconnected.

Good luck.
Gene.

The exhaust path ( hose and vent is clear ) . I wish that the probelm was as simple as a clogged hose .

Select a timed cycle and run a medium load of clothes. They should dry in about 50 minutes. If not empty the dryer and test output temperature, should be around 145 degrees, if not you probably have a burnt wire somewhere or a bad thermostat. You can get parts by clicking on your model# above.

I will try that later . I presume that the thermostat setup on this model works via the termistor and control board (y/n ?). Just wondering... The thermistor checked out OK - poper resistance at room temp . I got the beep on the moisture sensor shorting diagnostic test. Is it possible that something is bad on the board even though there were no error codes and the diagnostic beeps worked ? - Thanks

Ohm testing a thermistor will not necessarily show it is good or bad, if low temperature, just replace thermistor.
