Hi

The Dryer keeps overheating, there is a burning smell and very high drum heat present.

I can push the red button on the Thermostat/Temp controller on the back of the heating element and it continues to work for a while till it trips again.

Im no Appliance engineer but understand that there are 3 Thermostats that I can see, one as per above with the red switch seems to be the heater temp controller ? (3 spade connectors 2 in use) , but there is another one above ( 2 connectors) and also a third at the front that checks vent heat I think ?

Not sure which is the operating and which is the high heat one ? ( would have thought red button one was high heat but it seems to operate on high heat for a long time before this trips !) ...will it be the one with the red reset button or could it be one of the other 2?


Please can someone advise me how to establish what the exact fault is and then I can order and replace the correct one myself.


I havent tested with a meter yet as im unsure what values I should have for each.

Help/advice greatly appreciated.

One of most common cause for a dryer overheating is insufficient air flow through the dryer and the outside venting. This is the first thing I would check. Also you can disconnect the vent hose on the back of the dryer and run couple loads to see if there will be a difference.

Hi thanks for your advice Gene, I think that the vent is clear but will check a few without also to compare. The Dum is very hot so airflow doesnt seem good but the door filter is not blocked.

Any further advice on how I can check if the thermostats are operating correctly at all ?

The Hight heat thermostat is still tripping. Venting seems fine, suspect thermostats. Tried to test the high neat one with the reset switch on back of element and also the drum temp thermostat. Both read continuity and about 3.6 Ohms. Applying heat brought it down to about 0.9 but continuity always present - shouldnt they go open circuit or did they not get to temperature ? High heat stat had 2 values stamped on L120 and L150

Any more advice please?

did u check the heater it could be grounded to the housing causing this problem
