This dryer runs but will not heat. I was having a problem with the start switch so I replaced that. Still no heat. There are about 4 different parts that I know of that might cause this problem: (1) main timer (2) heat sensor (3)thermostat (4) igniter and maybe more that I don't know about. How can I test these parts to find out which one is bad? To buy one part at a time to find out which one is bad would put me in the poor-house and I don't have that kind of money to spend. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated.

You have to have a simple multimeter to perform troubleshooting. Most of electrical parts in your dryer have to be tested for continuity.

I do have a multimeter. I checked the igniter leads and found the following:There is no continunity between the two leads coming from igniter. In fact, on the ohms scale it read 20.8 M ohm. On the continunity setting it read OL, or overload. Does this tell me the igniter is probably bad, or good? Thanks

Most likely the problem is a bad igniter.

My GE dryer started working enough to dry 4 loads of clothes. I have not replaced any other parts except the start switch which I mentioned in my first post. The problem now and has been is the start switch does not always turn the dryer on without turning the knob back and forth a few times. When I do get it to run its seems to work normally. I have been told that the ignitor is either good or bad. no in-between. Is this true of ignitors? What could be the problem of the start switch not always turning the dryer on? I'm stumped again!

The start switch has nothing to do with the igniter.

Did the dryer make any noise when you tried to start it and it did not start?

Dryer did not make any noise when I tried to start it and it didn't start.(no noise at all, it just didn't start) I just went out and tried it again. Start switch worked this time and the drying cycle started like it's suppose to. Thats great but I can't depend on it happening every time like it's suppose to.
