Default Not Logical To Me?
Model Number: KEYE777B   Brand: Kitchen Aid   Age: More than 10 years

I set the timer and press the Start Button. The Start Button electromagnet closes (and stays closed). The dryer does not turn on but the timer runs correctly; all the way through its cycles.

The dryer only turns on when the timer reaches the "Smooth Guard" section in the Permanent Press Cycle. Smooth Guard intermittently air tumbles (no-heat-fluffing) clothes for about 30 seconds every 10 minutes (or so).

The dryer does not run in any other cycle including the Air Tumble Cycle.

This lead me to believe that there is a problem in the heating element or one of the circuit breakers.

I checked and get continuity in the:
Thermal Fuse (#6 on the parts list)
Dryer Cycling Thermostat (#7)
Thermo Cut Off (#8)
Thermostat (#15)
The Heating Element (#17) draws about 11.1 Ohms of resistance (200 Ω scale).

I connected an Ω meter to the red wire on the timer and went clockwise around the timer leads (as you look at them from the back of the unit) with the other Ω meter lead. Continuity was achieved while the timer dial was spun around (but not when it was in the off position) from about nine o'clock to three o'clock on the leads. This is the part that is not logical to me.

Do I have a timer problem. If so, does this fit a typical pattern for timer failure?

Any other suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

I have 240 volts to the back of the dryer and 120 volts to the motor.
