Hi,
I have a Kenmore gas dry 417.91042000 that once running, does not stop when the door is open. The door switch clicks and the light inside does go on/off according to the switch position. that's why it's so weird. I would have thought the tumbler is tied to that switch, i guess not.

It's more of a safety issue that the tumbler is on full bore even when I open the door.

Do you know what part I need and how easy is it to replace? i am handy...

thanks

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for KENMORE 417.91042000 | AppliancePartsPros.com

Here is a wiring diagram for a 2001, could not find one for a 2000.

Yes, it would be a strange way for the door switch to fail but it is either that or a couple wires have shorted together.
I would remove the switch and check it with a meter.

Thanks! I posted again on a new thread since I forgot I had posted this over a year back. Same problem. Switch checks out on the meter is the weird thing. A-B, and A-C since there are 3 prongs.

Does this sound like a relay problem? If so which one?
Like i mentioned, door light goes on/off but the dryer does not actually stop tumbling if the door is opened.

I'm ready to test, if someone has suggestions?

thanks

I do not know what relays you are referring to.

The Sears parts site shows a wiring diagram for this unit but I do not see any relays in the diagram.
Go to the site and take a look at the wiring diagram.

Also the door switch should disconnect Neutral from the motor etc. when open.

You said you checked it but what were the meter readings?

The wiring diagram does not show ADC for the door switch.
It shows:
C - common - blue wire
NC - normally closed - brown wire
NO - normally open - gray wire

So with the switch not activated, C to NC should be 0 ohms and C to NO should be infinite ohms.

Then when the switch is activated (closed), C to NC should be infinite ohms and C to NO should be 0 ohms.
