Second Belt for Maytag DG482 Gas Dryer
Model Number: DG482 Brand: Maytag Age: More than 10 years
I purchased the dryer new, as a pair with the washer over 20 years ago. In that time period I've replaced the solenoids on the dryer about three times, the basket twice and the igniter probably five times. I replaced the belt for the first time last July '09. Today it's the middle of June '10 and the belt I replaced in '09 just broke. I ordered a new belt today. I am wondering why the new belt failed. The original belt lasted over 20 years!
The dryer gets a lot of use. At least a couple loads a day. Does the tensioner need replacement as well? Ads By Google Related Models

I'm back
The idler was worn out. Replaced it.
And I just replaced the original dryer motor. Bought a used one for $50. I wonder whether the energy saved on a new model, like a front loader, would have paid for itself by now.
