Hi, my Maytag (top loading) fills with water but will not agitate. I have checked the belts-they are fine. When I pull the belts underneath the agitator will turn. I can hear the knob mechanism humming when I pull the knob out to start the machine, but no agitation. No matter which setting I put the machine on, it will not agitate. I vaccuumed the water out and it refills just fine. HELP!!!! What's the problem?

Check both switches (#5 & #16 on the diagram) on the lid switch assembly.

Check the water level switch for continuity between the terminals 7 & 16 while the washer full of water. If there is no continuity, replace the water level switch.
