I recently had my GE Profile dishwasher repaired by a local service company. The dishwasher would not fill with water. The tech diagnosed the problem as a faulty inlet valve which he replaced. I told him that we had noticed that the dishes were not getting very clean, that there was sediment left in some of the dishes, most noticeably glasses. He told us to stop using the liquid dishwasher soap and use a tablet style. We changed to the tablet style but still noticed some sediment. I called the service company back and they said I would have to pay another service call for them to diagnose this different problem. I don't think there is enough water being let into the dishwasher. I checked the level after the first fill cycle and the level is well below the heating element. I can put the dishwasher into service mode and function the various items, water inlet, drain, heater, etc. I think the water valve is cycled by time not water level. I now run the wash cycle with the additional heat option so the water gets to the proper temperature.
So my question is how much water is supposed to be pumped into the dishwasher and should there be an even distribution of water from the spray arms? If I'm not getting enough water, how do I change that?
I put 6 glasses face up on the upper rack, one in each corner then one each midway on outer edge of the rack. I ran a rinse cycle and there is not an even distribution of water. All three of the spray arms have been removed and cleaned.
Also, from the day we bought the dishwasher the soap dispenser would never be fully rinsed out. There was always glob of soap left in the dispenser. GE said that it was the way we were loading the dishwasher.

first off, fill the washer with water, when done open the door and notice the water level. At the bottom front left, there is a plastic dome, and at the 3 o'clock position there is a notch, the water level should be to that notch, no more, no less. Also, do you have a watersoftener? using jetdry? What soap were you using, and what tablets did you change too?

I checked the water level and it goes right up to the notch in the float switch dome. We do not have a water softener. The soaps used previously were Cascade powder and Cascade Gel. These types left globs down the door. We switched to the Electrosol tabs with the Jet Dry balls. Presently we have the Cascade Extra Action 2 in 1 Pacs. We do use Jet Dry but probably not always aware of the level.

Do you know whether you have hard or soft water where you live. This will play a huge roll in the proper function of your washer.

Add additional water to bring the level up to near the heater, then run dishwasher. Now does it spray better, if so, do the following test.
Time the first water fill. It should be more than 40 seconds, if so the service guy may have put the new solenoid in with a micro screen that clogs up easily.
Remove water solenoid and check the screen. If is is a white plastic one, it's a micro screen and probably clogged up.

That is a good question. We are on a city water system. I don't know if it is hard or soft. I hate answering a question with a question but, how do I know if it is hard or soft?

The water valve consistently runs for 70 seconds. It fills up to the bottom of the float switch dome. I will check the water valve screen next.

your water level is fine. If the water is filled to the notch at 3 o'clock position on the dome there is no more adjustment. Do this, get a liquid detergent, fill half way only. Make sure the detergent has no jetdry or rinse agent in it and see how your dishes come out.
