Smile dryer runs for few mins then shuts down
Model Number: LER5636E02   Brand: Whirlpool   Age: 5 - 10 years

no repairs have ever been done other than internal cleanings..it gets plenty hot, just have to wait for it to cool down, and will do same thing again, run for 5 mins and shut down, also my timerhas not been working, which means sometimes we forget we have laundrygoing and it was running for long periods..are either of these probs difficult for me to replace and repair? thanks,MJ

Hi MJM,

The first thing I would do is check the exhaust line and the lint chute (#1 on the break down diagram) for any blockage. This is most common cause for long drying time and/or dryer overheating.

Also continues overheating may cause damage to the motor.

Here are the break down diagrams for the Whirlpool dryer Model LER5636EQ2

Gene.

Default Model LER5636EQ2

I replaced the timer motor, and it solved one of my problems...it now goes through its cycle, old one was sticking..but the same problem remains...runs for 5minutes then shuts off..after cooling down it will restart and repeat this pattern...dryer vent, dryer vent door, and internal duct all clear of any debris..on restart there are no strange sounds coming from dryer motor, nor at switch..any idea on what way I should go from here? model#LER5636EQ2...THANKS,MJ

Hey Gene,Ichecked and cleaned everything in dryer.no blockage..it now will sometimes run a full dry cycle when it feels like it,to make this even more interesting..how often should the thermal fuse be replaced? the dryer is 10yrs old with same fuse.or could it be a bad thermostat??thanks MJ

Seems like a bad motor. I would check the motor for bad bearings.

Run a simple test at the time when you can not restart it.

Open the dryer door, push and hold the door switch, push the start button and manually turn the drum. Post the results.

Gene.
