Dishwasher Repair

the water flow to the top water impeller is somehow cut off. The machine only has one pump for the upper and lower water impellers. There is a ball that appears to have a function near the pump impeller. It seems to move freely. I have made sure the lines are clear and the pump impeller is free of debris. I confirmed that the water is only being diverted to the lower water impellers by running the machine with the door open. Please give me advice on what to do next. No parts appear to be broken. Thanks.
