Angry Kenmore Dishwasher Just Stops
Model Number: 665.   Brand: Kenmore   Age: 1 - 5 years

My Kenmore is around 2 years old and recently it has just stopped working mid cycle and the keypad dies out.

It seems to power back on indescriminately and when it restarts (resuming where it left off) it can stay on for <1 minute or run for 10.

I looked at the circuit diagram and ran the diagnostic but it dies in the middle of that too.

I called an appliance repair guy who, as a result of being stuck in traffic, tried to help me self diagnose it- he seemed to think the computer/circuits were all fine and that it sounded like a fuse was tripping (or a heat sensor?).

However, I can find nothing labeled fuse on the schematic. I'm betting he's right as now that I think about it, it seems to power back on after it has cooled off.

All connections are snug on the board as are the connections from the dishwasher to the power source. There is no corrosion on the board.

I'm trying to discern my model number but the front of the manual lists the following: 665.1602, 665.1702, 665.1603, 665.1703, 665.1622...

I'm hoping it's something simple. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Ok. I think I've narrowed it down to the thermal fuse. However, I can find NOTHING that looks like any of the pictures of a thermal fuse online. Anyone have any idea where this stupid thing is?

Is a Thermister the same thing as a thermal fuse?

Yeah. It's not the thermal fuse as it's reading .2 on the meter.

ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS!?

Hi Adam,

It has nothing to do with the thermal fuse because this fuse is not resettable.

The complete model number of the dishwasher is very important for proper diagnosis and for correct replacement parts (if needed). You can find it on the door frame. You can find all troubleshooting instructions in the tech sheet behind the bottom panel.

Gene.

Sooo. After about 10 hours of fiddling with this thing and going to various various VARIOUS sites for advice and reviewing tech diagrams, the tech sheet (folloing the steps for diagnosing- or trying to) I asked my neighbor who is an elevator repairman to come down and help.

He diagnosed the problem in less than 30 minutes (cause he, you know, knows what he's looking for) .

There was a problem with voltage. Want to know what it was specifically? Are you read for this? IT WAS a BAD WALL SWITCH (where's the cyring icon when you need it?)

I had suspected a problem from the wall but had no idea how to confirm loss of voltage.

Anyway, it's fixed now and that's all that matters...at least until I burn down my house in a rage induced fury

Still it was good to find this site. Thanks everyone.
